Vasicola ciliata Tatem, 1869
Vasicola ciliata; a protostomatid ciliate which isi living in a thin lorica. This specimen was was found without this lorica. This ciliate is conspicouos because of the colored food vacuoles filled with Rhodobacteria. Visible is the macronucleus (Ma). The arrowheads mark some structures which may be symbiotic bacteria which are reported to live in this species.(1)

Habitat: anoxic detritus, together with Brachonella contorta, Lagynus elegans, Metopus laminarius and Stentor mulltiformis (1);
